Trump Administration to Revoke Legal Status for Over Half a Million Migrants

In a major immigration policy move, U.S. President Donald Trump’s administration has announced plans to revoke the temporary legal status of more than 500,000 migrants from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua, and Venezuela, according to a report by the BBC.

These individuals have been given notice to leave the country before April 24, when their deportation protections and temporary permits will officially be terminated.

The decision could trigger immediate disruptions in several key sectors of the U.S. labor market—particularly agriculture, construction, hospitality, and healthcare—which heavily rely on immigrant labor. Economists suggest that a reduced labor pool could drive wages higher as demand outpaces supply.

In addition, the administration is also weighing whether to revoke temporary protected status (TPS) for approximately 240,000 Ukrainians who sought refuge in the U.S. amid the ongoing conflict with Russia.

This latest immigration shift underscores the Trump administration’s continued hardline stance ahead of the upcoming election cycle, sparking debate over the economic and humanitarian consequences of such sweeping actions.
