China Backs Pakistan Amid Soaring Tensions with India — Diplomatic Alliance Strengthens in South Asia

As geopolitical fault lines deepen in South Asia, China has thrown its full diplomatic weight behind Pakistan, reaffirming its “iron brother” commitment during a critical meeting between Chinese Ambassador Jiang Zaidong and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

The high-stakes conversation came as tensions with India escalated following New Delhi’s baseless allegations linking Pakistan to the recent Pahalgam attack. India’s move to pin blame on Pakistan has drawn sharp rebuke, with Islamabad categorically denying involvement and calling for an independent, transparent international probe.

China Stands Firm with Pakistan

Chinese Ambassador Zaidong praised Pakistan’s clarity in refuting India’s narrative and reassured Prime Minister Sharif that Beijing remains firmly on Pakistan’s side in its pursuit of regional peace and stability. The ambassador’s remarks underscore a growing strategic alliance between the two countries amid intensifying regional hostilities.

This comes just days after Pakistan and China blocked a pro-India UNSC statement on the Pahalgam attack, a major diplomatic blow for India.

Sharif: “India’s Water Politics Is a Weapon of Coercion”

During the meeting, PM Shehbaz Sharif condemned India’s continued aggression, particularly through its controversial handling of water disputes under the Indus Waters Treaty (IWT). “Weaponizing water is a direct violation of international law,” Sharif stated, slamming New Delhi’s unilateral moves as “provocative and hostile.”

Pakistan’s Anti-Terror Sacrifices Ignored by the World

Sharif also highlighted Pakistan’s frontline role in the war on terror, emphasizing the heavy toll of over 90,000 lives and $152 billion in economic losses in its battle against extremist groups such as ISKP, TTP, and the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA)—many of which operate from across the Afghan border.

Despite Pakistan’s efforts, India continues to push a false narrative, ignoring Pakistan’s sacrifices and regional instability caused by cross-border terror networks.

Kashmir: The Core Dispute Still Ignored

The Prime Minister reiterated that sustainable peace in South Asia is impossible without resolving the Kashmir issue in line with UN Security Council resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people. “Pakistan stands for dialogue, not war—but justice must not be sidelined,” he said.

China-Pakistan Strategic Diplomacy Strengthens

PM Sharif expressed deep gratitude to Chinese leadership, including President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Qiang, for their steadfast diplomatic backing. He cited a recent call between Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Pakistani Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, where China reiterated its support for Pakistan’s principled stance amid India’s escalating provocations.
