Introduction to Cryptocurrency Trading

Are you ready to begin your journey into the art of trading crypto?

The world of crypto trading is vast and full of possibilities. It’s a perfect example of the old saying, “There are a million ways to skin a cat”—though we prefer the gentler version: “There are a million ways to exfoliate a trader.” 😄

How to Trade Crypto

More seriously, as a trader, there are countless ways to manage risk and aim for profits in the market. The purpose of this guide is to introduce newcomers to solid trading principles and show how those principles can be applied to create personalized trading strategies and processes.

The goal is to help you learn and survive during your early days as a beginner until you find what works best for you.

Even if you already have experience trading other asset classes, revisiting foundational skills is always valuable.

Let’s dive in!

What is Trading?

Trading is the act of buying or selling financial assets with the aim of making a profit.

A trader typically seeks to:

  • Buy an asset at a lower price and sell it at a higher price, or
  • Borrow an asset to sell at a high price and then buy it back at a lower price (short-selling).

While this sounds simple, trading in real-world markets is incredibly challenging. Market behavior is influenced by a combination of:

  • Fundamental inputs (economic data, company performance, etc.)
  • Supply and demand dynamics
  • Geopolitical events
  • Human emotion and crowd psychology

Without the ability to predict the future (unless you’ve got a crystal ball or a reliable fortune teller), there are never any guarantees in trading—regardless of how much research or preparation you do.

And no, there is no holy grail system that guarantees risk-free profits. 😅

Each individual also brings unique challenges to the table, such as:

  • Limited time or energy
  • Small trading capital
  • Emotional difficulties with risk-taking

Because of these complexities, most people are better suited for passive investing. But for those with a strong interest in markets—especially the crypto market—active trading can be an exciting and worthwhile pursuit.

If you’re okay with the risks, including the possibility of losing part or all of your capital, then you’re in the right place.

In the next lesson, we’ll cover the core trading principles every new crypto trader should know.
